The CW will probably pick up another midseason drama, but Ostroff said she wanted to wait to see how the season plays out before making a decision. The network developed six drama pilots, including a Gossip Girl spinoff starring Brittany Snow, which aired as part of a Gossip Girl episode two weeks ago and was not received very well by fans. That series could still make an appearance next year, Ostroff said. Privileged and Reaper have been canceled.
“We were nervous about shooting so many pilots, but every one of the pilots was a tough contender for us,” she said. “They all were really, really good. We do have room for another midseason show. In all honesty, the Gossip Girl spinoff is the show that we’d love to find a place for as the season goes on. But we have to take a minute and see where we are.”

Attention Brittany Snow fans: Don’t panic.
Despite reports that the Gossip Girl spinoff has been axed, the ’80s series is not officially dead yet, according to a source close to the CW network.
The CW programmers are still making their decisions, and that everything, including Snow and Krysten Ritter’s new series, is under consideration.
Why wouldn’t a Gossip Girl spinoff get an automatic pickup – especially with flashback teases set to air on Monday night’s all-new Gossip Girl?
The problem for all of the CW pilots this year is that with Privileged likely to get a pickup, there are only three spots left in the CW’s schedule for new shows.
The original Gossip Girl, along with 90210, Supernatural, Smallville, One Tree Hill and America’s Next Top Model have all already been ordered for next year.

From EWAusielloFiles at Twitter:
Watching Gossip Girl spin-off, which a CW insider says is not DOA. Brittany Snow is fantastic. We’re about to meet her sis Krysten Ritter.
GG spinoff gets a solid B. Lots of potential. Brit/Krysten = fun team. In need of a good Chuck/Blair-type antagonist. See4urself Monday.
Here’s to hoping the show will happen!
GOSSIP GIRL SPINOFF (Warner Bros/CBS-Paramount/Alloy Entertainment): As I reported at 2:45 PM today, put a fork in it. It’s done. Next Monday’s episode of Gossip Girl is a flashback that was supposed to be a tempting taste for next fall’s spinoff following the wild teen years of now mom Lily van der Woodsen (played by Brittany Snow) in Los Angeles in the 1980s. But even though I heard Peter Roth loved its yesteryear vibe, the show went from hot, to lukewarm, to “fading but wouldn’t count out”, to now dead, according to my insiders. I’m really surprised.
Check out the promo for Krysten’s episode, set to air next week!
MONDAY, MAY 11
GOSSIP GIRL (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET)
“Valley Girls” (TV-14, L) (HDTV)
EPISODE FEATURES GUEST STARS BRITTANY SNOW (AMERICAN DREAMS), KRYSTEN RITTER (CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC), 80S ICON ANDREW MCCARTHY, MICHELLE TRACHTENBERG (17 AGAIN) AND A PERFORMANCE BY NO DOUBT In a flashback to the 80s, 17-year-old Lily Rhodes (Snow) gets kicked out of boarding school and runs away to Los Angeles, reconnecting with her parents, Rick (McCarthy) and Cece (guest star Cynthia Watros, Lost), and sister, Carol (Ritter). Back in present day, Blair (Leighton Meester) and Nate (Chace Crawford) attend prom together, but the evening doesn’t turn out exactly as planned and Chuck (Ed Westwick) has a little something to do with that. Serena (Blake Lively) and Lily (Kelly Rutherford) don’t see eye-to-eye over Serena’s recent run-in with the law. No Doubt performs in the episode as an 80s band called “Snowed Out.” Penn Badgley, Taylor Momsen, Jessica Szohr and Matthew Settle also star. Marc Piznarski directed the episode written by Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage (#224).
Krysten Ritter admitted that she received the good news of her joining Gossip Girl spin-off almost at the same time as everybody else. Speaking to Access Hollywood at the premiere of her latest feature movie, Confessions of a Shopaholic, on Thursday the actress said that she just got the call about an hour before.
“I just got the lead in the Gossip Girl spin-off, so that’s pretty cool!” elated Krysten said. “It feels really overwhelming. I’m lucky. I feel like a million bucks!”
She will play Carol Rhodes, the older sister of Lily Rhodes aka Lily van der Woodsen after she got married. Her character will take in Lily to her Los Angeles house after Lily falls out with their parents. Speaking about her part, Krysten said, “I’m playing the outcast. She’s an ’80s Sunset Strip rocker!”
The spin-off is not yet titled but there will be a back door pilot that airs as an episode of Gossip Girl in May.

The Gossip Girl spinoff is actually happening! Just one more show to add to the Tivo! And now we hear that the first character has been cast. That was quick! Krysten Ritter has been cast as Carol Rhodes, who is Lily van der Woodsen’s older sister and black sheep of the family.
The storyline for the spinoff is all about Lily’s crazy teen years growing up in Los Angeles. Lily is forced to move in with her sister and deal with not having the privileges of a charmed life like she had before.
This should be interesting! We like Krysten as an actress! She played the goth girl in 27 Dresses, and you can catch her next weekend, starring opposite Isla Fisher as Suze in Confessions of a Shopaholic.
